Bio

Bruce Ashley was born in Sydney, Australia and has lived in Fiji , the UK and the USA.
He served in the Royal Australian Air Force and worked for six years at the Seven Network in Sydney as a Technical Director. He has a passion for photography, is a patron of the International Center of Photography and a member of the Recording Academy (Grammies). He studied Computer Science at Macquarie University in Sydney and earned credit at the School of Visual Arts and New York University studying creative writing, film and philosophy.

He is an accomplished editor and technical director and has worked on a variety of projects including many cause-related ventures. His credits include drama, documentaries, TV series, commercials, music videos and live concerts. Noteworthy projects include the MTV "Buzz" TV series; video albums for Duran Duran (as assistant) and Enigma, the AIDS awareness documentaries "Red Hot & Dance" and "Red Hot & Cool," the Michael Moore documentary "Pets or Meat," film segments for the 1996 Beat Experience exhibition at the Whitney Museum and the "David Bowie & Friends" concert at Madison Square Garden. Other work includes "The Patriot Act" directed by the Oscar nominated director Lilibet Foster; the Michael Stipe initiative for hurricane Katrina relief "In the Sun" (Telly Award) and the Grammy nominated film for the recent Bruce Springsteen "Devils and Dust."

Bruce has also edited numerous music videos for artists including INXS (MTV Best Video), Lush, Jesus and Mary Chain, Love and Rockets, Pearl Jam's "Jeremy," (MTV Best Video), Madonna "I Want You," Los Lobos "Kiko and the Lavender Moon," (MTV Best Breakthrough Video), Iggy Pop "Wild America," the Santana hits "Smooth," "Maria Maria" and "Put Your Lights On" and a Bob Dylan video for the feature "Gods and Generals."
Recently he cut the somewhat risqué Girls "Lust for Life" video and the Ryan Bingham "Weary Kind" video for the film "Crazy Heart."

Among his numerous commercial projects, with an emphasis on the eclectic, fashion and beauty, are spots for Guinness (Cleo), Clinique (Cleo), Elizabeth Arden, the NBA (One Show Pencil), Foster's Beer (One Show Pencil), Compaq, AT&T, Miller Breweries, Cingular, Verizon, Coldwell Banker, Astra Zeneca, JC Penney, Kohls, Colgate, Liz Claiborne, Avon and Tiffany & Co.

During his career Bruce has worked with leading talent including the likes of Russell Mulchay, David Mallet, Mark Pellington, Howard Greenhalgh, Steve Hiett, Arthur Elgort, Tommy Hilfiger, Isaac Mitzrahi, Morten Sandtroen, Stephan Sednaoui, Tim Pope, Bill Murray, Matthew Ralston, Ellen von Unwerth, Marcus Raboy, Peter Lindberg, Isaac Mizrahi, Russell James & Danny Clinch.

Film making and directing work includes PSAs (Public Service Announcements), featuring the personalities - Ashley Judd, Blair Underwood, Joss Stone and Timbaland; an award wining experimental short “A Lover’s Whisper"; fashion films for designers Christian Francis Roth "In An Instant" that uniquely explores the 9/11 attacks in New York City and spots and promotional films for Bristol Myers Squibb, Saatchi and Saatchi Healthcare, Astra Zeneca, Sanofi Aventis and Pfizer. On a more eccentric note, he recently directed the successful YouTube hit "The Rappist" for the artist Schaffer the Darklord.

Bruce was recently commissioned by photographer Russell James to work on the multi media, film and video portion of his unique and exceptional "Nomad Two Worlds" exhibit featuring the art, photography and music of indigenous Australian artists, and contemporary musicians including will.i.am.
